SAHM here. Keeping my child out of trouble has always been a challenge for me. Now that she’s 3 it’s not getting any easier. She’s almost LESS interested in her toys. I thought she would learn to play with her toys for increasing increments. But lately it’s like she’s not interested for more than a single minute. I try toy rotations also and I got rid of baby toys so these are age appropriate. Anyone else have this struggle also and if so what do you have them do instead? I’m literally pulling my hair out trying to accomplish the most simple yet crucial tasks such as making her breakfast. She’s been way more interested in putting her hands into raw eggs or on hot stoves or pulling things on the ground that aren’t heres than staying out of trouble and just playing with her toys I’ve spent a lot of money on. Trying to make important phone calls is next to impossible - it is definitely going to create a melt down. She quit napping at age 2.5 also so it just all got so much harder at that point I’d say.

My son loves playing with water—inside or outside the house. He also likes sitting in the front seat of the car and pushing all the buttons. He wants me to stay close and focused on him. He likes playing with some of his toys but he wants me around and even join him. He quickly interrupts any phone calls or sometimes doesn’t want me to talk to his dad. He wants a full focus on himself. He is pretty bossy these days. So I’m assuming this is another hard phase and I don’t have a good solution either

my daughter does all this to get my attention, so I try to balance doing things together Vs alone. if I'm cooking and she's trying to get into something, I will propose an activity ( last time I gave her a couple velcro ribbons and suggested she put it onto her playpen (she now uses it as a playhouse and it kept her occupied for 5-10 min). if that doesn't work, I get her involved in whatever I am doing, she LOVES to help, especially in the kitchen. cracking eggs, mixing things, chopping things with her baby knife. sure it'll take me a little longer, but it will be less stressful for both of us. I've also noticed that once she's had her fill of doing things together, she is more likely to wander off and play by herself. also with toys, less is more.
